   Dean's Welcome Message

Welcome to the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County.

Now in its eighth decade, UWMC is a leader in offering liberal arts education for first and second year students. Our success is based on the very special ability of our faculty to respond quickly and attentively to the individual learning needs of our students. With an award-winning advising program and such resources as the Academic Resource Center, Computer Lab, Career Center, UW Libraries, and the Wausau Homes Writing Center our faculty and staff work to ensure students’ academic success as they prepare for baccalaureate degrees offered at universities throughout the United States.

To complement our outstanding learning environment, which includes our newly renovated science labs, UWMC offers abundant opportunities in student life. A residence hall, an active student government association, competitive intercollegiate and intramural sports teams, and more than twenty clubs and organizations provide many outlets for leadership development and student engagement.

Another unique enterprise for UWMC students centers around our newly founded Institute for Public Policy and Service, which will focus on educational outreach, service learning, and non-partisan public dialogue on important public issues. The institute will provide students with opportunities to actively participate in governmental affairs, enter into public service, and engage in civic leadership.

Meeting the academic needs of central Wisconsin is very important to us. Therefore, for our location-bound students who are interested in obtaining a baccalaureate degree, UWMC now offers collaborative degree programs in Business and American Studies with UW-Stevens Point, Engineering with UW-Platteville, and Nursing with UW-Oshkosh. It is now possible to stay right here in central Wisconsin and pursue your educational goals.

We know what students need to be successful in higher education, and we know how to provide students—both adult learners and traditional learners—with what they need to succeed in their academic careers. That’s why we want you to join us.

Please visit us—on the Web or on the campus. We believe that you will appreciate our professional approach to a liberal arts education, and that you will find the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County to be a match for your educational needs.
