Student Accessibility Services

Students with disabilities (those who have been admitted and can provide documentation of their disability) have the right to request accommodations from the University, as stipulated within Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1976 and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

After being admitted to UW-Marathon County, students with disabilities should make an appointment with Annette Hackbarth-Onson in the Office of Student Services (room 150) to discuss their specific needs.  Individual assistance is available in planning a manageable schedule. Special effort will be given to provide for a quality university experience.  A special computer, hearing devices and telephone devices are available to our students.

A qualified student with a disability is an individual who, with or without reasonable accommodation, meets the academic and technical standards required for admission to, or participation in, UW Colleges programs. Such students have impairments that substantially limit one or more major life activity’s (communication, mobility, etc.), have a record of such impairment, or are regarded as having such impairment.

Examples:

Learning disability, visual impairment, hearing impairment, mobility impairment, psychological impairment, speech impairment, diabetes, chronic pain, cancer, HIV/AIDS, traumatic head injuries, ADHD, Multiple sclerosis, kidney disease, Cerebral Palsy, Sickle Cell Anemia, Fibromyalgia, environmental illness, Chronic Fatigue syndrome, Autism, Tourette’s syndrome and others.

Laws Applicable to Students with Disabilities:

UW Colleges complies with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, specifically Section 504, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. No recipients of federal funding may discriminate against a qualified individual with a disability solely by reason of their disability. Students with disabilities have equal access to all UW Colleges programs, services and activities.

Parking & Elevators:

Physically challenged students will find reserved parking spaces at the north end of campus, in Lot B, and at the northwest corner of the field house, in Lot D.  Elevators are at the north, east and southwest entrances.

Early notice of a disability is extremely important due to the time required to make arrangements for many accommodations. Annette can be contacted at (715) 261-6243 or annette.hackbarth-on@uwc.edu.
