We welcome you to the Department of Political Science on the 13 campuses of the University of Wisconsin Colleges.  We are the pre-eminent transfer institutions of the UW System, operating under the Regents and the State Government.

It is our task to teach quality courses and the  intellectual skills that students will need to flourish when they transfer.   Since many of our students are not in the top 10% in their previous academic life, we are very pleased with data that shows that our transfer students do as well or better on the four year campuses than those (often in the top 10-25%) who began their college work there.  If we go easy on the students, they will later pay a heavy price, as will the UWC.

Most of the time you will be operating on your own, without the ability to wander down the hall and confer with another political scientist.  We have become accustomed to communicating by e-mail,  and invite you to ask or comment to anyone in the department at any time.  Or to all of us.  One reason for this handbook is to try and impart some essential information and some guidance (for example, syllabi from the UWC and senior institutions.)
