Instructor of Biology and Microbiology needed for Fall 2008

Part-time instructor needed to teach one laboratory section of BAC 101, “General
Survey of Microbiology,” one laboratory section of BIO 109, “Concepts of
Biology,” and one section of BIO 099, “Basic Biology Tutorial.” This position
will require 10.8 hours per week of in-class time, plus appropriate office
hours.
BAC 101 is a survey of microorganisms and their activities, with emphases on
structure, taxonomy, function, ecology, nutrition, physiology, pathology and
genetics. The laboratory is an introduction to standard techniques and
procedures in general microbiology, and meets for two hours twice a week. All
laboratory and course materials will be prepared by the primary instructor of
the course.
BIO 109 is an introduction to the fundamental principles of living organisms,
including cell and tissue structure, growth, basic physiological processes,
reproduction and inheritance, classification, evolution, and ecology, and
laboratory sessions cover most of these topics. The BIO 109 lab section meets
for two hours twice a week, and all laboratory and course materials will be
prepared by the primary instructor of the course.
The BIO 099 tutorial meets for two hours per week. The tutorial is intended to
provide supplemental instruction to promote the success of at-risk students
enrolled in BIO 109. The tutorial instructor is expected to be knowledgeable
about BIO 109 lecture and laboratory topics.
Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or a related field is required, but a Master’s
Degree and teaching experience are preferred.
