A view looking south from Hwy159, about halfway between Hwy12S and the north
entrance to Devil's Lake State
Park.
This is
the terminal moraine of the last regional advance in the Wisconsinan glaciations. The ice stood here
about 13,000 yrs ago and built up this irregular ridge in the landscape. The
ridge is about 40ft. high and 1/2mile wide. The area in the foreground (west
of the ridge) received meltwater flows and was also an area of lake ponding.
