For Chapter 16 complete the Concept Review, Visualizing Geology, and
Quick Quiz. Each
time "submit" the answers to me at: kmontgom@uwc.edu along with your name.

For Chapter 17 there is no assignment -- I recommend you work through
the material as you wish on your own.

Finally, go to
this web site and complete the exercise on locating the epicenter and
finding the magnitude of an earthquake -- then print off the certificate
at the end and submit it to me in hard copy.

Doing this is voluntary.

If you obtain a grade of 80% on all self-tests in the semester I will
count if for 2% of the total test grade -- straight raise!

You can submit each self-test only once.

This page contains selected links to hyptertext materials concerning
earthquakes and seismology. You will likely find them a useful complement
to the course text and you will be required to access some of this material
as part of lab activities. The background to this page is a seismic record
of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake as recorded at Gottingen, Germany
(details in link below).
Check out some fundamental differences in the patterns of seismicity
from a subduction zone (Tokyo-Alaska) as contrasted with a transform fault
