EL NINO
There is a great volume of material in 1997-98 dedicated to El Niņo and the Southern Oscillation (ENSO). Below, I have reduced it to
most of the best and sorted them into three categories. I have also included at the end the homepage of the Atlantic's version of ENSO,
the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO). Research on this latter phenomenon is relatively new.
However, first I present an image that shows the
series of El Niņo and La Niņas over the past 40 years, as witnessed by pressure oscillations across the Pacific (the Southern Oscillation); and then I
present an image that demonstrates the early strength of the 1997-98 El Nino, in the form of a temperature anomaly map.
