Camp Description: Join us at our first ever Wizarding
Academy and explore different contexts for thinking about the Harry Potter
series—through myth, literature, folklore, language, identity, history, and
film. You’ll also work on an interdisciplinary and collaborative project
designing your own shop for the wizarding consumer. Come experience "Herbology,"
"the History of Magic," and "Transfiguration," along with films and trivia about
the books, and a Wizarding Tournament. All campers will be sorted into their
house as preparation for a week of thinking, talking, reading, film-watching,
building, and fun!
Camp directors Karley Adney, Assistant Professor of English and Holly Hassel,
Associate Professor of English and Chair of UW Colleges Women's Studies Program
are co-authors of the forthcoming Critical Companion to J.K. Rowling
volume and bring years of teaching experience, a love of literature, and a
passion for all things Harry Potter to the classroom. Contact them at
karley.adney@uwc.edu or
holly.hassel@uwc.edu.
