What are On-Line Courses?

In on-line classes, which are also known as Internet, web-based or asynchronous courses; the student and instructor communicate with each other using e-mail and a web site. To take one of these courses, students must have access to the Internet either at home, work or school.

In addition, students must be proficient at using e-mail, e-mail attachments and web browsing/ printing; and the computer that they use for the course must be relatively powerful and capable of handling multi-media presentations (i.e., sound and video). For more on the technology requirements of on-line courses, go to http://online.uwc.edu/

Student should also remember that on-line courses are not self-paced courses. They will have to complete homework and other individual and group activities by specific dates and times. In addition, some instructors may require students to participate in on-line discussions at specific times, just like in a traditional class.
