The greenhouse officially opened May 6, 1973. The main goal of the $86,000 building project was to give faculty and students a place to study plant genetics, bacteriology and plant ecology.

The three wings of the greenhouse cover an 864 square foot area that is equipped to grow aquatic plants and climate controlled plants such as cactus.
