Treats, too!

Bring a colleague and your best idea relating to teaching listening, reading, authentic materials, or teaching LD students. Maybe you use technology in an innovative way or you have a good idea about assessment that you think might interest others. Do you teach narrative writing well or use art to engage your students in language learning? Bring your idea and a few copies to pass and we’ll have an informal idea exchange.

Look for other professional development opportunities in the spring. We are looking at a couple of options for two sessions during the second semester, 2007.

The AWL has some very good news!
AWL is the very grateful recipient of a generous gift of $2,000 from the Albert Olson Charitable Trust. Vickie Richmond-Hawkins came up with this “bright idea” at our meeting on October 23rd and proceeded to make some phone calls the following day. The Albert Olson Charitable Trust was set up by Albert Olson, Vickie’s grandmother’s brother and generally donates to performing arts and youth activities in the Tomahawk area.

The check will be written to the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin and they will administrate our funds, just as they did for our former grant.

Julie Bunczak, Shar Soto, Kathy Spencer and Mary Nell Reif will begin work in November on a presentation and materials for a project addressing the benefits of language learning.

A heartfelt thank-you to Vickie for thinking of AWL and for taking the necessary steps to make this donation possible. I have assured her we will be good stewards of the money.
