An unusual moment conference tournament 1971-72
Playing in a dense fog, the Huskies finished last (12th) at Pine Hills Country
Club in Sheboygan. The Huskies were the only team that did not practice on the
course the day before. Due to the fog and not being able to see the greens, the
players lost many balls, quite a few of which were probably in the fairways.
Wausau Daily Herald 10/19/1971.
2005-2006
An unusually heavy fog greeted our team on the second day of the 2005-06 conference/state tournament. However there was no delay from the 9:00 a.m. shotgun start on October 10th, and the fog did not lift for about 9 holes of play (about 2 hours). This time, however, the Huskies did not falter and held on for Conference Championship and State runner-up trophies.
Both of the WCC Conference medalists from 2005-06 (Nathan Nelmark) and 2006-07
(Dylan Lemke), played at Tomahawk High School under Coach Garth Herstenberger.
Garth attended UWMC and was a member of the 1981-82 WCC Conference Championship
team and is pictured third from the right in
this team photo.

Alumni and Coaches Accomplishments
Dave Raab, 1954-55 and 1955-56, won two Channel 7 Invitational golf
championships in 1962 & 1971.
Gary Kordus, 1965-66, won five Channel 7 Invitational golf championships in
1974, 1976, 1980, 1988, and 1990. He was also runner-up four times.
Claude Thomas, 1969-70 & 1970-71, set the course record on the old Trappe
River Golf Course, 6330 yards, par 72, August 26, 1979. Claude carded a 62
(29-33), with only 20 putts. Claude unfortunately passed on, still a young man,
from Lou Gerhigs Disease. While a student and athlete on this campus he
participated in both golf and cross country. He was a leader and friend to many
and is dearly missed.
David Rocky Larson, 1979-80 & 1980-81, won the Channel 7 Invitational golf
championship in 2000.
Larry Olson, UWMC assistant coach, currently holds the Rib Mountain course
record, 1900 yards, par 32. Larry carded a 25 with two eagles, three birdies and
four pars.
Joel Ryner, 1975-76, broke the course record on the new 6181 yard course at
Trappe River Golf Course. Playing from the white tees on July 19, 2003, he fired
a 27-33 for a 60. Course pro Buck Walsch described the front round score of 27
as phenomenal!
