*UW - Milwaukee might sometimes transfer classes such as Oil Painting, Ceramics 1, etc as art electives. The Art Department in Milwaukee is aware of the problem. If this happens, bring it to their attention and they will work with you to transfer classses correctly.

The UW Schools are part of a unified system which makes transfer from a Centers campus to another UW System campus relatively easy. You can confirm the transferability of any class online through the Transfer Information System Database maintained by UWSA.

Recommended Studio Art Courses for Non-Art Majors

Recommended classes for Art Majors

The following studio classes are excellent choices for non-art majors. They all assume no prior experience and meet the Performance requirements for the Associate degree.

ART 111, 2-Dimensional design; is particularly well suited for education, architecture, and Liberal arts majors as well as any student of the humanities and social sciences. The class spends considerable time examining and applying color theory using basic models which can easily be applied throughout ones life at home or work. Some basic computer design is also taught. No drawing or painting experience is required.

ART 101, Introduction to Drawing; also assumes no prior drawing experience although there are art majors in the class who may have had some experience. The class starts with basic line drawing and teaches the beginning student all the fundamentals of strong drawing skills. This class is a good choice for any major particularly architecture, engineering and writing based majors. It helps develope eye hand coordination and has long been considered a desirable skill for any well educated person.

ART 112, 3-Dimensional Design; A good choice for architecture, engineering, geometry, 3-D modeling and anyone interested in spatial design, The class investigates and works directly with materials to learn how they interact. No experience is required.
