Associate of Arts and Science Degree
If you are undecided about a major, an Associate of Arts and Sciences degree can
be particularly valuable, since it fulfils the University of Wisconsin's
system-wide general education requirements for freshmen and sophomores. Students
can also pursue this degree as their personal foundation for their major at any
UW System campus.
For those who are not going on to complete on a four-year degree, the Associates
degree can serve as the foundation for lifelong learning, leadership and
responsibility. Completing the degree demonstrates proficiency in mathematics
and English, and knowledge from a wide variety of courses including humanities,
social sciences and natural sciences.
The requirements for receiving a UW Colleges Associate of Arts and Sciences
degree are as follows:
1. Successful completion of a minimum of 60 credits, with at least 24 of the 60
credits completed within the UW Colleges or 12 of the last 24 credits completed
within the UW Colleges.
2. Fulfillment of the UW Colleges General Education Requirements
3. A student must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 earned at
the UW Colleges and 2.0 overall GPA in the credits applied towards the Associate
of Arts and Sciences Degree.
4. Students must be enrolled at a UW College during the semester in which the
degree requirements are completed or have earned 60 degree credits prior to
transferring from a UW College to a baccalaureate degree granting campus.
